Contractor software with roots in the trades
Werx started in 2023 when an electrician got tired of fighting progress billing. We build the billing and cost tools we wished we had on our own jobs.
Why Werx exists
Werx was founded in 2023 by an electrician who ran his own contracting work. He won the jobs and did the work, then spent nights on the paperwork that actually gets a contractor paid: pay applications, schedules of values, retainage math, and spreadsheets that never quite matched the contract.
The options on the market did not fit. Software built for large general contractors assumed an office staff to run it. Simple invoicing apps could not handle progress billing at all. Nothing was built for the trades, so he built it.
That is still the test for everything we add to Werx. If it does not help a contractor estimate a job, manage it, or get paid for it, it does not go in.
Estimate, manage, bill
Werx is contractor management software for trade contractors. The platform follows the way a real job flows, from the first estimate through the final payment. Contractors use Werx for estimating, AIA-style pay applications (G702/G703 style), progress billing, time-and-material invoicing, retainage tracking, budget-to-actual cost tracking, and time tracking, with a two-way QuickBooks Online sync. Field crews log their hours from the Werx mobile app on iOS and Android.
Who writes the guides you read here
The articles in the Werx Academy, Help Center, and blog are written by the Werx team. Our roots are in the trades, and our guides stay close to the day-to-day problems contractors deal with: getting pay applications approved, keeping retainage from wrecking cash flow, and knowing where every job stands.
We keep it practical. We review our guides on a regular basis and show the updated date on each one, and we do not publish numbers we cannot back up. When a topic touches law or taxes, we link to the primary source and tell you to confirm the details for your state.
