The mistake with flooring is ordering the room size and forgetting the cuts. Every run leaves an off-cut, and the last board of a row rarely lands full. This adds a waste allowance and rounds up to whole boxes.
Five to ten percent covers a straight lay. A diagonal pattern wastes more, and herringbone more still, so bump the percentage for those. The tool lets you set it.
Buy the whole job at once from the same dye lot. Color shifts batch to batch, and a box bought later can be noticeably off. Keep one spare box after the install for the repair you will eventually need.
