Quote the job so it holds up

A good estimate wins the job and protects the margin. This template lays out your line items with a quantity and unit price, totals them, and leaves room for a contingency so an unknown does not eat your profit.

The Excel version calculates as you type: each line amount, the subtotal, the contingency, and the estimate total. Delete the rows you do not need and add more where it runs short. The PDF is the same layout, ready to print and fill by hand or hand to a client.

There is an acceptance line at the bottom for the client to sign and date, which turns the estimate into an agreement to start. Fill in the validity date so an old number does not come back to bite you when material prices move.

Keep the description specific. The more clearly the estimate spells out what is and is not included, the fewer arguments you have later about what the price covered.

What is the contingency line for?

A percent buffer for the unknowns on a job. It keeps a small surprise from wiping out your margin.

Can the client sign it?

Is this really free?

Yes. No email, no signup. Download and use it on every bid.
