Most jobs go wrong quietly, a little over here and there, until the profit is gone. This tracker puts budget against actual by category so you can see it while there is still time to react.
Enter your budget for labor, materials, subs, equipment, and the rest, then update the actual as the costs come in. The variance calculates on each line, and the estimated profit at the bottom subtracts your total actual from the contract amount.
The committed column is the one people skip and regret. When you sign a purchase order or a sub contract, the cost is real even though the bill has not arrived. Logging it as committed keeps a surprise from showing up at the end.
A spreadsheet like this works, but only as well as you keep it fed, and updating it by hand is the part that slips. When it slips, you are back to finding out at closeout.
