Baseboard follows the perimeter of the room, minus the doorways where it stops. Enter the length and width and the number of doors, and the calculator gives you the linear feet with waste added and the pieces to buy in your stock length.
The waste on trim is really about the corners. Every inside and outside corner is a miter, and a blown cut on a coped inside corner costs you a length. On a long wall you also lose a little to the scarf joint where two pieces meet. Ten percent is a fair starting point, more on a room with a lot of jogs.
Buying by the stock length your yard carries matters. Longer stock means fewer joints on a long wall, but it is harder to handle and more to waste on a short room. Keep the offcuts, because the next room almost always needs a short piece.
If you are casing the doors and windows too, figure that separately, since casing is a different profile and a different length per opening.
