The pavers and everything under them
A paver patio is three layers, and the top one is the easy part. Enter the patio size and the paver you are using, and the calculator gives you the paver count with waste, plus the bedding sand and the edging.
Waste is real on pavers. Every edge is a cut, and a diagonal or herringbone pattern makes far more of them, so bump the allowance for anything but a straight running bond. Order full pavers, not just the field, so you have cuts to work with.
Bedding sand is the 1 inch setting layer the pavers sit in, screeded smooth over the base. It is figured here in cubic yards. Under it you still need a compacted gravel base, usually 4 to 6 inches for a patio and more for a driveway, which you can size with the gravel calculator.
Edging locks the field so the pavers do not creep and spread over time. It runs the full perimeter, staked into the base, and it is the step people skip and regret.
