Studs, plus the extras around them
The on-center count is the easy part. Studs every 16 inches, plus one to close the end. The tool figures that from your wall length.
The extras are where a stud count comes up short. Corners and wall intersections take extra studs, and every door and window needs jack and king studs plus a header. Blocking and backing for cabinets and fixtures adds more. A 15 percent allowance covers a typical wall with a normal number of openings.
Plates run the length of the wall. A double top plate is standard, so plan on three plates total, one bottom and two top. The tool turns that into the running feet, and the boards you need in your chosen length.

How many studs do I need?
Take the wall length in inches, divide by the spacing, and add one, then add for corners and openings. The calculator does it with a 15 percent allowance you can adjust.
Is 16 or 24 inches on center better?
16 is the standard for load-bearing walls. 24 uses less lumber and suits some non-bearing and advanced-framing walls.
How many plates?
Three is normal: a single bottom plate and a double top plate.
