The parts inspectors fail you on
A water heater swap looks simple until the inspector points at the missing expansion tank. The code items are the ones techs skip when the day is running long.
Check the pan, the expansion tank, the seismic straps, and the T&P discharge before you leave. Pipe the T&P to code, not to the floor. On a gas unit, leak test the connections. On an electric unit, verify the connections and the breaker.
Confirm the capacity and fuel type before you load the truck so you are not making a second trip. Document where the old tank went and close out the invoice on site.
The list covers gas and electric. Delete the side that does not apply, or keep both if you run a mixed fleet.
