Create pay applications
Bill by percent complete, with retainage handled for you.
Updated October 15, 2026
A pay application bills part of the contract based on how much work is done. Werx numbers them in order, carries forward what you billed before, and holds back retainage at the project's rate. Each one shows up on the Invoices list like any other invoice.
- Open the contract project and click the Revenue tab to see its pay applications.
- Click Add in the top right and choose Add Pay Application. Werx numbers it and carries forward what was billed on earlier applications.
- Open an existing pay application from the list.
- For each schedule of values line, enter the work completed this period (percent or amount) and any stored materials. Werx calculates retainage, previous billings and the amount due.
- Click Save, then Send to email the application to the project contacts for approval and payment.
Good to know
- Percent or amount. Enter either for each line. Werx fills in the other.
- Change orders approved since the last application appear as their own lines.
- Record the payment with Apply Payment when the check arrives, or let the customer pay by card from the portal.
