Extra work authorization

Get the extra work written down and signed before you do it.

Updated October 15, 2026

An EWA is the paper trail for work outside the contract. It records what was asked for, who asked, and the labor and materials it took. The customer signs it on site. Pricing comes later, on the change order request.

  1. Open the contract project, click Add in the top right and choose Add Extra Work Authorization.
  1. Describe the extra work, who requested it, and add a line for each item of labor, material or equipment with its quantity. No prices yet: an EWA records what was done, not what it costs.
  2. Click Save, then Authorize to capture the customer's signature on site (web or Field App). A signed EWA can be turned into a change order request with pricing.

From the Field App

Crews can create and get an EWA signed from their phone. See Create an EWA in the Field.

EWA FAQ

What if the customer will not sign?

Save the EWA anyway and send it by email. The portal lets them authorize it later, and you have a dated record either way.

Can I add photos?

Yes. Use the files panel on the EWA to attach photos from the site.
